New year
One of my hobbies is to take pictures of street art in Bergen. The street art scene is quite active with lots of young and aspiring artists painting outside either alone or together. Some pieces are illegal and some are commissioned.
In Bergen you can find street art in the strangest of places, which I absolutely love. The stranger the location, the better.
I’ve been observing the street art scene for a decade and I’ve met some of the artists. Some of them are now paid artists selling artworks in galleries. In case you are wondering: I am not a street artist myself. Just a happy amateur photographer.
Below you can see some pieces by the artist TYV in the industrial area of Danmarks plass, not far from the city centre.
The first one depicts Marius, the “half prince” in the Norwegian royal family, the crown princess’ son from a previous relationship. Over the last few years he has been behaving badly and causing a lot of drama, to say the least.
This piece stayed for some weeks in December, then it was removed by the municipality. Yesterday, however, TYV had made a new piece on the excact same spot, showing crown princess Mette-Marit and crown prince Haakon cleaning up the mess that Marius had caused. It has been a tough year for the royal family.
If you would like to buy a print of a local street artist in Bergen, you should visit Gategalleriet. They recently moved to Solheimsviken and the address is Damsgårdsveien 14, see picture below. You can buy super expensive big paintings or prints you can frame in later.
