Bergen houses

As mentioned before, the Bergen architecture is a bit of this and that. Some houses are ugly, others are classy. Bergen is not Stockholm and will never be, even though some enthusiasts are aiming for it these days, protesting in the newspapers about the horrific modern buldings in the city. They want the old style back, like the houses on the photo below. These houses survived the city fire of 1916 and date from the 1800, so their architecture is more classical. They are situated in Østre Murallmenningen and are often overlooked by visitors who are on their way to discover the Nordnes peninsula.

Personally I love these houses. They make the perfect photo subject. Whenever I show a photographer around in the city I insist on visiting this area.

As for the Nordnes peninsula I will write more about it later on. It is my favourite part of town and I used to live there in my student years.
